Since last Friday, MDA’s forces have been on extremely high alert in the southern part of Israel in order to provide life-saving care to those who were injured as a result of the rocket attack in Southern Israel.
Throughout the weekend, MDA’s forces have treated 3 men in their 40’s, who were injured by the shrapnel and splinters of a mortar bomb which fell in a settlement in the Eshkol Regional Council’s area. One of the injured suffered bomb shrapnel that penetrated all parts of his body and was evacuated with severe wounds to Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva. Another man who suffered shrapnel to his stomach was evacuated with a moderate medical condition and the third was evacuated with minor injuries; both men were evacuated to Soroka Medical Center as well. The injured were evacuated by the MDA helicopter and by MDA ambulances. Moreover, during Saturday MDA’s medical staffs treated five other injured in the Ofakim, Ashdod and Western Negev sectors, including two residents who suffered minor wounds while running towards the protected spaces and three who suffered injuries due to a pile-up that occurred when people pulled over to the side of the road when hearing the alarm. The injured were evacuated to Barzilai and Kaplan hospitals with minor wounds.
Towards Saturday evening, an intensive care mobile unit evacuated another man in his 40’s in Be’er Sheva, after the latter fell off his bicycle when the alarm was heard. He was rushed to the Trauma Room in Soroka Medical Center with a head injury and is now in moderate medical condition. Moreover, MDA’s staffs provided medical treatment to six persons who suffered trauma throughout the weekend.
Even as the new week emerged, MDA’s forces were still in action, treating trauma victims from the different settlements were struck with bombs. In the last four days, MDA’s staffs treated a total number of 25 trauma victims.
Another significant incident took place yesterday afternoon, when Grad rockets fell at the heart of Ashdod. Large fleets of ambulances, intensive care mobile units, paramedics, medics and on-call medics were launched to the area; they treated a woman in her 80’s who suffered minor injuries due to shock waves and glass shatters to her head, and another man who was at the area and suffered glass shatters to his hand. The two received treatment on the spot by MDA’s staff and were evacuated to Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot with a minor medical condition for further treatment.
